On Wednesday 23rd January, one hundred teachers, teaching assistants and education professionals from primary and secondary schools from across East Sussex attended the inaugural ‘Hastings Mini Maths Conference’.
A joint venture from the SSIF Hastings Maths Project, and Sussex Maths Hub, the event at Ark William Parker Academy saw attendees sharing their learnings, practices, stories and, as one attendee put it, “local teachers collaborating for excellence”.
Andrew Jeffrey, the internationally renowned ‘Mathsmagician’, gave an inspiring keynote speech, which was followed by enthusiastic workshop sessions on a range of maths and teaching workshops.
Organiser, Victoria Cockram, from the Hastings SSIF project to improve Maths, said “We are absolutely delighted with how the first conference went. Teachers and professionals all face similar struggles and challenges, so coming together to share and enjoy maths is an invaluable and positive experience. We felt a real buzz amongst attendees and are thoroughly looking forward to hosting this again next year.”
