On Tuesday 20th August, the Hastings Young Ambassadors launched a new fund for activities and events in Hastings and St Leonards. At an event attended by over 90 under 18s, they asked young people directly to submit their ideas for what they think the town needs, with the best ideas being granted up to £5,000 for a community organisation to then run.

The project is overseen by The Hastings Opportunity Area, a three year Department for Education programme investing in education, and has a focus on projects which are free for young people to access and aim to improve social mobility. The Hastings Young Ambassadors are a group of 12 – 18 year olds who have been commissioned by the organisation to run initiatives working directly with young people.

“We want young people in this town to have a voice and tell us their ideas so that we can make them a reality,” said Chelsie Francis Whether it’s sport, music, art or an event bringing people together we think that young people themselves know what’s needed so this is their chance to make something happen.”

The fund is open to all 12 to 18 year olds are able to submit their ideas through an application form. Ideas can be submitted by an individual, or in partnership with a school or community group, and the deadline for applications is 27th September.
