Free enrichment activities in schools and colleges

We are providing support and funding for local schools and colleges to offer additional free enrichment activities, aimed in particular at children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Schools and colleges are being provided with funding, based on the numbers of pupils who are in receipt of Pupil Premium, so that they can deliver additional activities for those groups of children and young people who would not otherwise be able to access these. This means that individual primary schools will receive additional funding of between £2,500 and £12,000 a year depending on the size of the school and numbers of disadvantaged pupils who attend. Secondary schools will receive funding of between £12,000 to £30,000, and colleges between £18,000 and £30,000.

Schools and colleges were asked to set out proposals to deliver additional free activities for children and young people that build life skills such as confidence, leadership, citizenship and resilience.

Making more activities available within the schools and colleges themselves will mean all pupils have more direct access.
