Award winning i-Rock service extended
i-Rock is an award winning ‘one stop shop’ offering timely support to young people aged 14-25 around mental health issues, wellbeing, education, employment and housing. There are no referrals or appointments required and there is no minimum threshold, which means anyone can drop in at any time when they feel the need.
Since opening in 2016, i-Rock has seen over 500 young people coming through their doors every year, many of whom are seeking support for the first time. Working collaboratively with multiple agencies, schools and a Youth Advisory Group, the service has quickly cemented itself as an invaluable and effective local resource.
Whilst i-Rock has continued to offer immediate initial appointments, limited capacity has meant that there has been little opportunity to offer further appointments to young people who may benefit from a brief intervention. Having made that initial connection, i-Rock is keen to expand its capacity to meet young people up to four times to offer support, guidance and evidence-based interventions that may have a much longer term benefit.
How are we supporting i-Rock?
We have funded i-Rock to extend its services from three to five days per week from November 2018. This will increase capacity for drop-in support and enhance i-Rock’s brief interventions offer, meaning that young people who are accessing help for the first time can receive immediate support.
“Over the last 2 years we have identified key areas of concern including distress related to bullying, anger issues, domestic violence, sexual violence, suicidal thoughts and fear of failure. Discrete brief intervention packages developed by a clinical psychologist will provide 1-4 sessions, aimed at negating the need for alternative provision and enhancing coping skills alongside the chosen pathway.” Viki Ashby, Youth Services Project Manager.
Over the two years duration of HOA’s funding, i-Rock’s key aims are:
- To increase the number of young people they reach to a minimum of 640 contacts per year
- To offer brief evidence based interventions of one to four to 50% of the young people accessing i-Rock
Open: 11am – 6pm Monday to Friday
