Raising attainment in maths
Priority years 1-3
In 2016, achievement in maths was low across all key stages. At Key Stage 2, only 59% of pupils achieved the expected standard in maths compared with 70% nationally.
At secondary school, pupils in Hastings made less progress in maths than their peers nationally.
Building on the successful work of the Sussex Maths Hub in primary schools using Teaching for Mastery approaches, we developed a cross-trust proposal for the Strategic School Improvement Fund 2017-18. The Hastings Maths Project was born, which introduced and embedded mastery approaches across a wider group of schools.
From 2018, the HOA funded the Hastings Maths project, initially focussing on KS2 and KS3 in 2018/19 before expanding to include KS1 and KS4 in 2019/20.
